How to Associate your SMCC ID card to the Xerox photocopier

SMCC uses a printing chargeback system called PaperCut.  PaperCut utilizies a system in which you can associate your SMCC ID card to your SMCC username on a Xerox photocopier.  This reduces the time needed to sign on to a photocopier in order to retrieve unreleased jobs, photocopy a document or email a document to a recipient. 

Solution

NOTE:  To guarantee successful card signon, place only your ID card on the card reader area.  If your ID card is in a wallet with other RFID capable cards - such as a credit card - the card reader may pick up the wrong signal. 

Associating your SMCC ID card to your SMCC username on a Xerox photocopier is a one-time process. Additionally, that association works on any other Xerox photocopier.  You will want to associate your SMCC ID card to your SMCC username to expedite the use of FollowMe/Printing confidential print jobs or the use of photocopying/emailing and faxing functions.

1. Tap your SMCC ID card to the card reader located on the Xerox photocopier.  The card reader is typically to the left of the touchscreen on a typical Xerox photocopier.
   • This is a picture of the card reader.    NOTE:  Placing your card on the the touchscreen does not scan the card.
2. Select Yes  on the Associate Card Screen - You must select Yes to associate your card with your SMCC username. 
3. Enter your SMCC username.  NOTE: This is not your email address but simply your username which is everything prior to the @ symbol in an email address.
4. Select OK to accept your SMCC username
5. Enter your SMCC password - when requested, enter your password associated with your SMCC username.  This is your standard password used by every system on the SMCC campus.  
6. Select OK to accept your SMCC password
7. If you are successful, that is, if you’ve entered your username and password correctly, your SMCC ID card is now associated with your username and password.  Please press Yes to continue.  You should be on the photocopiers Home Screen.

On the home screen, you can create a copy, copy a document to Email, Fax (if your photocopier has that capability) and release a confidential or Follow-Me print job. 

NOTE: If you receive a new card you will need to associate your card again. When your SMCC password changes, you do not have to re-associate your card.
