Connecting Your Device to the WiFi - Amazon Echo

This article describes the process to find your Amazon Echo's MAC address and connect it to the SMCC-Gaming network.

Note: These steps are for screen-less Echo devices (Echo and Echo Dot). This information may not work for Amazon devices with screens, such as the Echo Show.

Prerequisites:

  • Mobile device with the Amazon Alexa app downloaded
  • Amazon account

Procedure

Open the Alexa app and go through the steps to add a device.

You will get to a screen that asks if your Echo is in setup mode. If you haven't already, hold down the Action button (dot) for several seconds until the light ring on the Echo turns orange and flashes in a circle. Note: If your Echo is brand new (you just took it out of the box), it should go into setup mode on its own.

Tap Yes once your device is in setup mode. The app will search for a moment, then you should be able to select your device from the list.

Once you select your Echo, you'll be shown a list of WiFi networks. Don't pick one yet. Near the bottom, it says "Tap to see MAC address". Tap it. You need this in order to register your Echo on the WiFi.

On a separate device, follow the directions here: Register a Device on the SMCC-Gaming Network to register your Echo. You may also call the IT HelpDesk at 207-741-5696. We are happy to register your Echo for you.

Once your Echo has been registered, you can proceed with the setup process. Tap the SMCC-Gaming network.

You'll see a connecting screen for a moment, then a confirmation that says your Echo is connected. At this point, setup is complete and you can continue with the rest of the Echo setup options.

If you experience problems connecting, please submit a ticket.
