How Do I Get Connected to the WiFi?

SMCC offers several wireless networks for various types of customer and devices. This article will give you an overview of how to get connected, with links to detailed, step-by-step instructions.

Students and Employees

If you are a student or employee of SMCC using a phone or laptop, you will go through an "onboarding" process that will allow your device to securely connect to WiFi and will be valid for three years. The process goes like this:

  1. Join the SMCC: Start Here network. This is a "first-time" network that will get you connected to the eduroam network. Eduroam is a secure wireless network that many colleges and other institutions worldwide offer to their customers.
  2. Your device may automatically open the registration page. If not, open a browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc) and go to
  3. Click the large blue button that says "Students and Employees Click Here to Connect to WiFi".
  4. Follow the prompts to connect your device. This is where the instructions depend on exactly what device you have. Go to our Knowledgebase section for wireless: and find the article for your device. It will be listed as something like "eduroam - connecting with a device".

Game Consoles, Alexas, Smart Home Devices, etc

Some devices like consoles and smart speakers don't support the eduroam network (specifically, its highly secure encryption). For these devices, we offer the SMCC-Gaming network. In order to use this network, your device must be registered with us. We collect a piece of hardware information called a MAC address which uniquely identifies your device to the network. To register your device, step 1 is collecting that information. We have some Knowledgebase articles on how to do this, here: Look for articles starting with "Connecting Your Device to the WiFi".

  1. Go to and in the Game Consoles, Alexas, & Other Smart Devices section, click the blue button that says "Click Here for Device Registration".
  2. Log in with your SMCC username and password.
  3. Complete the form by providing your MAC address, a descriptive name, and accepting the terms of use.
  4. Click Create.
  5. Connect your device to the SMCC-Gaming network.

Device registration is valid for up to one year from the day you register. You may register the same device again when that year is up. Please note that the SMCC-Gaming network does not offer encryption and we do not recommend that you conduct sensitive activities like banking on this network.

If you're an employee and you have something that you want permanently on the WiFi, submit a ticket and we can assist you.

Guests, Visitors, and Conference Attendees
